To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled:

The petition of the undersigned shows:

That Australian men and boys face profound, systemic disparities across multiple core social indices that require urgent, coordinated structural intervention at the federal level.

  1. Crisis in Male Life Expectancy and Preventable Mortality: Australian males continue to experience significantly lower overall life expectancy than women, driven by a disproportionate rate of preventable chronic illnesses, occupational fatalities, and a compounding male suicide crisis where men account for approximately three-quarters of all self-inflicted deaths annually.
  2. Systemic Inequities in Family Law and Paternal Disconnection: Countless fathers experience institutionalized parental alienation and severe psychological distress resulting from protracted family law proceedings, highlighting an acute need for structural reform, dedicated male legal advocacy access, and support services tailored to fractured post-separation family dynamics.
  3. Gaps in Educational and Developmental Outcomes: Boys across Australia are falling behind in foundational literacy, numeracy, and secondary school completion rates, while experiencing higher rates of behavioral disciplinary exclusions and disengagement from higher education.
  4. Absence of Dedicated Federal Representation: Unlike specific demographic portfolios and ministries established to address targeted equity, welfare, and social outcomes across the broader Australian population, men and boys possess no dedicated federal executive portfolio, cabinet-level representation, or centralized policy body tasked exclusively with mitigating these compounding crises.
Your petitioners ask that the Senate

establish a dedicated Federal Minister for Men and a corresponding federal department portfolio to coordinate national policy, oversee systemic welfare and health reforms, and address the specific social, legal, and mental health challenges facing Australian men and boys.
